From Prototype to Impact: Lessons from an AI News Summary Tool Built with Claude Code

Why I Built This

I’ve been exploring ways to use AI to stay ahead of fast-moving trends, without getting buried in news feeds or endless open tabs. So I built an AI News Summary Tool using Claude Code. It started as a small experiment: could I pull top AI-related headlines, summarize them, and turn those into usable content, all in one tool?

The project ended up sparking more than just summaries. It reminded me how quickly AI can move ideas forward. It also reinforced how critical it is to prototype fast, test in the open, and learn as you go.

How I Built It

My goal was simple: stay on top of AI news and generate content from it without having to constantly dig. Here’s how the tool works:

• Pulls trending AI headlines using news APIs and RSS feeds

• Summarizes each article with AI-generated takeaways

• Adds a ranking and scoring layer to surface relevance and trends

• Allows you to select a story and instantly generate a blog or social post

  
  

It’s lean, fast, and (to my surprise) immediately useful. I even built in some basic styling to match the Augusto brand. The whole thing ran locally in minutes.

What Worked (and What Didn’t)

I compared Claude Code with tools like Windsurf and Bolt during the build. Each has a different personality:

• Claude Code: Calm and structured, ideal for focused development, backend logic, and long-form code with clear reasoning.

• Loveable.dev / Bolt.new: Playful and fast, perfect for UI-first prototyping, creative ideation, and early product sketches.

• Summary: Use Claude when you want solid code and stability; use Vibe tools when you need speed, visuals, and exploration.

  
  

The biggest win for me was Claude Code’s ability to track context and to-do items across my session. I could see what it had completed, what was still on the list, and what it generated, all without getting lost in the noise.

Why This Matters for Our Clients and Team

This wasn’t just a fun side project. It’s a reflection of how we think and work at Augusto.

Final Thoughts

This project reminded me that progress doesn’t have to start with a roadmap. Sometimes it starts with a question. “Can I build this quickly?” turns into “What else could this unlock?”
