Augusto Builds Custom Digital Operations Platform

May 17, 2022/by augustosystems

metrics

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, May 17, 2022 – Using their cloud native expertise, Augusto Digital built a custom digital operations platform that allows DecentraCare, a HealthBar company, to manage clinician onboarding, scheduling and the development of its multispecialty healthcare referral network. DecentraCare’s network now boasts more than 550 nurses and nurse practitioners across the State of Michigan as well as over 20 referral partners allowing other healthcare entities and individuals within the community to access a-la-carte healthcare services.

When DecentraCare originally launched they were running their entire operation from a manual spreadsheet. They needed custom software support to scale their onboarding and scheduling processes. Augusto’s custom application now saves the DecentraCare team significant time and money while gaining efficiency and accuracy.

“The need for a decentralized healthcare services network has never been greater. Outpatient healthcare providers like nursing homes, home health agencies, and specialty medical services are struggling to meet their minimum staffing requirements in the post-COVID era,” said Nathan Baar, DecentraCare Founder. “DecentraCare can help solve this issue by providing skilled, as needed nurse staffing services. This work wouldn’t be possible without the custom software that we developed with the Augusto team.”

The first component Augusto built was the clinician onboarding process. When new clinicians join DecentraCare’s network, they interact with a custom application. They enter their information and an API that’s connected to the State of Michigan registry authenticates their nursing credentials. They’re able to watch a welcome video of Baar and record themselves as an introductory interview. On the back-end of the application, DecentraCare team members can review, ask questions and accept or deny the new clinician.

Augusto then built a custom scheduling application that integrates with QuickBooks. It provides interactive master scheduling, where nurses can connect their calendars and coordinate jobs. Payment is connected, as well, so DecentraCare can track time, pay clinicians and invoice patients.

Augusto’s engineering team leveraged their AWS cloud expertise in the technology stack created for these custom solutions: Cognito for user management; and programming languages such as Flask for server-side API, PostgreSQL database, and React frontend. This serverless Architecture allows DecentraCare the ability to grow without having to change the infrastructure or technologies.

Augusto continues to support DecentraCare through the development of a dashboard where patients can request services, view their spend, and discover the clear benefits of relying on a decentralized healthcare network where transparency and ease-of-access is crucial.

DecentraCare seeks to decentralize healthcare services creating transparency, quality, and ultimately independence for the healthcare community. Former emergency room nurse and Director of Emergency and Urgent Care Services at a leading Health System, Nathan Baar, founded DecentraCare to create a decentralized healthcare system that mobilizes healthcare providers allowing them to work independently. This independence allows them to focus on treating their patients instead of on all the red tape that exists within the healthcare system.

HealthBar offers full-scale medical services to schools and businesses and leverages DecentraCare’s extensive nursing and multidisciplinary clinical referral networks when needed to scale its operations.

About DecentraCare: DecentraCare seeks to create nursing independence through an open market for healthcare services. Healthcare has continued to consolidate and reduce opportunities for nurses and other healthcare professionals to work independently. This consolidation of the system is done to achieve greater profits but has a negative effect on patient access, quality of care and clinician satisfaction.

GRAND RAPIDS, MIFebruary 15, 2022

Augusto recently expanded its application support services to help clients ensure their custom applications drive revenue and provide a strong brand experience. The West Michigan-based software company is providing organizations with a limited-time offer of a free app evaluation—a $3,000 value—to identify challenges like security threats or bugs and to provide suggestions for improvement. This limited-time offer expires on March 31, 2022.

Augusto’s expanded app support services include application monitoring and a helpdesk, freeing companies’ staff to focus on other priorities. Augusto also provides corrective maintenance for bugs and adaptive maintenance to keep the app relevant within the technology environment.

“As Augusto continues to expand and grow, adding support services was a natural next step. Our customers can now expect a single point of contact for any issues and bugs—ensuring timely feedback and performance optimization,” said Jim Becher, Augusto co-founder and director of strategic partnerships.

When left unchecked, a custom software application can wreak havoc on companies’ business goals and users, including: lost revenue, low productivity, missed deadlines, reduced engagement, and an overall negative brand experience.

“We were looking for security and loved the idea of someone proactively checking the backend of our software. Augusto is responsive and helpful to all of our questions and requests!” said Carol Zichi, Operations at New Community Transformation Fund.

Organizations can take advantage of these app support services whether Augusto built their custom software application or not. Companies looking for fast, convenient, and seamless application support—so their hard work developing a custom app isn’t wasted—can take advantage of the limited-time free app evaluation today by visiting augusto.digital/free-application-evaluation-offer. Be sure to complete the form by March 31, 2022 to qualify.

Augusto Joins InterOp. Community

January 17, 2022/by augustosystems

GRAND RAPIDS, MIJanuary 18, 2022

—

Augusto is the first West Michigan-based software company to join InterOp.Community, a new nation-wide alliance offering open source sandboxes to advance healthcare Interoperability.

A sandbox is a virtual environment that accelerates developers’ ability to create and test software applications for the healthcare industry. Augusto’s participation will produce faster-to-market applications that improve the lives of patients and healthcare systems globally.

A significant opportunity for health technology is interoperability, which is the ability of computer software systems to exchange health data. Interoperability and health analytics bring more visibility to public health initiatives, help to reduce national healthcare costs, enable better investments and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes.

“We are thrilled that Augusto has joined the InterOp.Community,” said Mary Kratz, Advisory Board Member of InterOp.Community and Executive Vice President of the Interoperability Institute. “Augusto’s contributions will enable the commitment to advancing healthcare interoperability via the use of open platforms and open-source software.”

InterOp.Community is a not-for-profit health IT community focused on the leveraged use of open-source software to provide industry test beds, sandbox environments, technology incubation, and HIT platforms and resources to promote health, human services, and wellness via interoperability.

“Augusto has partnered with health technology businesses for years, helping them develop real-world systems using Interoperability standards. Developing and testing these applications is complex and time-consuming, so we’re grateful for the open-source platforms of InterOp.Community that will advance interoperable health solutions for our clients,” said Brian Anderson, Augusto founder and CEO.

Augusto Expands to Traverse City

December 5, 2019/by augustosystems

Welcoming Justin Wolgamott to the Augusto Team

Justin Wolgamott is a Traverse City area native and resident, and the newest member of the Augusto team.

As a technical lead, Justin is responsible for ensuring client vision translates into digital products that deliver value quickly and stay within budget. He enjoys working on SaaS products that leverage cloud architecture and well-designed data systems.

A Background Rooted in Technology

Justin’s earliest exposure to technology came in high school, where he helped build his school’s website during the early days of the internet. That experience sparked a long-term interest in software development.

He then went on to study software development and information security at Northwestern Michigan College and Ferris State University. After graduating, Justin built nearly a decade of experience working in health tech and financial services.

Joining Augusto and Driving Product Innovation

In August 2018, Justin joined Augusto as a technical lead on the development of OrbitalRX, a pharmacy automation solution. Augusto’s product-focused approach to software development proved to be a strong fit.

Since then, Justin has contributed to numerous engagements with organizations bringing industry-disrupting digital products to market. In 2019, he officially joined Augusto on a full-time basis.

Why Traverse City Matters to Augusto

Augusto’s continued investment in Traverse City is driven by the region’s growing technology ecosystem. One example is TCNewTech, a local pitch meetup where technologists share ideas and business ventures. Augusto has both presented at and sponsored the program.

The area has also attracted notable investment. Detroit native Casey Cowell, founder of U.S. Robotics Inc., has invested $6 million in four growing Traverse City tech companies due to his love for the region.

A Home Base at 20Fathoms

Cowell also helped found 20Fathoms, a tech incubator that supports the development of new business ideas by providing mentorship, business services, and funding connections to young tech companies. 20Fathoms is the perfect location for Justin to have a home base for his Augusto work.

Looking Ahead in Northern Michigan

Augusto is excited to be a part of the Northern Michigan tech and digital product community and looking forward to many future relationships with the incredible entrepreneurs, businesses, and talented folks that call Northern Michigan home.

Driving Innovation at MiHIN Connectathon

June 17, 2019/by augustosystems

Exploring the Future of Healthcare Data at MiHIN Connectathon

Recently, I got a clear glimpse into the exciting future of healthcare data as the Augusto team attended MiHIN’s second annual Connectathon event in Detroit.

Together with many technical and non-technical experts in the healthcare and finance industries, we explored innovative solutions to healthcare interoperability using open application program interfaces (API) and patterns that work in other industries, such as finance.

The Launch of Interoperability Land

The event was also the debut of MiHIN’s Interoperability Land (IOL), which Augusto has been helping to develop. Interoperability refers to the ability of computer systems and software to exchange information and use it effectively. While the concept sounds simple, achieving it in healthcare is complex.

IOL is a shared digital platform designed to power the future of development between organizations and systems. It uses realistic synthetic healthcare data, allowing teams to build and test applications safely. In short, IOL creates a no-risk environment where developers can test apps against data spread across multiple organizations within a health network.

Interoperability is a major focus of investment nationwide. Healthcare organizations are actively seeking better ways to unlock data and drive innovation. It was incredibly exciting and hopeful to watch so many talented people quickly use IOL to build apps that can effectively solve problems in our current healthcare system.

Inside the Connectathon Experience

Participants, including several Augusto staff, broke into teams to explore a variety of audience-nominated ideas. Each team’s IOL test environment was populated with a synthetic healthcare network comprised of eleven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR): servers that mimic real-world healthcare organizations like doctor’s offices, health plans, hospitals, pharmacies, and specialty clinics.

They spent about 24 hours developing their apps before pitching their demos to a panel of judges, of which I was a member. We elected our top five ideas, at which point the audience voted by text for the top three winners.

The winning concept was Silver Sparrow, a patient-centered application that creates a 360-degree view of a patient’s healthcare, expenses, and challenges. Silver Sparrow puts the patient in charge of their healthcare by marrying clinical, claims, and financial data to empower patients to make more informed healthcare-related decisions. Stephen, one of Augusto’s team members, helped this team with the app user experience and front-end development.

Looking Ahead

Overall, Connectathon was a tremendously successful event for the Augusto team. We built strong new connections with others working at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

Many thanks to MiHin for inviting us to participate!
